Bought new, as far as I can tell, there being no stickers to say it came from an op-shop and no pencil mark on the first page to say it was bought second-hand, this book came out in and is not what I normally read so it’s a puzzle to me as to when it. The last two humans left in Dogtown were the two black characters,Ruth and Cornelius. And Diamant even tells us that the dogs were down from 28 when Ruth arrived to 5 when Easter left. Later she even adds that after the death of Cornelius, the very last Dogtowner, there were only three dogs left.
